Backtype is a new search engine which specialize on finding, following and sharing comments on the internet.
Backtype was founded by two Canadians namely Mike Montano and Christopher Golda through investment fund from Y Combinator, a leading internet-based investment firm.
The company blog was launched in August 8, 2008 simultaneously with the Beijing Olympics Opening.
It allows comment monitoring through a commentator following and searching service in a large database of indexed comments on the internet.
It joined popular conferences such as Inbound Marketing Summit.
In April 2009, it released the Backtype Connect Plugin for Wordpress, a new feature that shows conversation from reliable sources such as Twitter, Digg, Friendfeed and Reddit.
