Bank of America was founded in 1904 by Amadeo Giannini as "Bank of Italy" in San Francisco, California. [Wikipedia]

The company evolve through various company generations including Bank of America and Italy (1922) and Bank of Italy National Trust & Savings Association (1927).

In November 3, 1930, it was renamed to its current name: "Bank of America".

In 1967, it established BankAmerica Corporation to facilitate Bank of America and its subsidiaries.

It acquired and consolidated with various banks including Banca dell'Italia Meridionale (1922) in Italy, Liberty Bank of America (1927), Bank of America Los Angeles (1928), SeaFirst Corporation (1958), Security Pacific Corporation (1992), Valley Bank of Nevada (1992), Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Co. (1994) and Merrill Lynch (2008) in US.

In 1953, TransAmerica Corporation and Bank of America was separated under Clayton Antitrust Act which was strengthened by Bank Holding Company Act of 1956.

The company develop the first stages of VISA (1975) through the establishment of BankAmericard (1958).

It joined various organizations and institutions like Federal Deposit Insurance Corporations (FDIC) and Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA).

It is headquartered at the Bank of America Corporate Center in Charlotte, North Carolina with President and CEO Kenneth D. Lewis.
